The Natural Products Research Network for Eastern and Central Africa (NAPRECA) was established in 1984 and was subsequently affiliated to UNESCO as a network program in 1988. NAPRECA is a non-political, non-sectarian, non-governmental and non-profit making scientific body devoted to the study, promotion and development of the science of all aspects of natural products, including their botany, chemistry, pharmacology, biological activity and economic exploitation and conservation.
NAPRECA member countries include Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia Uganda, Egypt, Botswana, Cameroon, DR Congo, Madagascar, Rwanda, Sudan, and Zimbabwe. The network is coordinated by secretariat headed by the Executive Secretary that rotates in member countries.
The Current Executive Secretary is Prof. Robert Byamukama from Makerere University, Uganda. The member countries have NAPRECA National chapters, which are expected to promote collaboration among scientists working in Natural products in their member countries.
